| Flight Strips Issues? | |
David Figge ![]() 16th Nov 2012 13:43:31 | Dave,
Has anyone else experienced computer lag (not fsx lag) when running flightstrips? I host RealFsx and several of our controllers are complaining that their computers start to shutter when running flightstrips. I have experienced it as well. It only happens while running flightstrips with fsx. My machine specs are i7-2600k β GTX670 β 8 gigs ram β 2 ssd hard drives, so I don't think itβs the hardware. Thank you in advance for any advice offered David |
Dave Wave ![]() 16th Nov 2012 15:15:43 | Just been onto your server and all seemed fine.
Flight strips hasn't changed for ages so I'm guessing something else has changed on your machines. Can you describe exactly what users are experiencing? Also suggest using task monitor to check if any other processes are hogging the cpu when this occurs. |
David Figge ![]() 16th Nov 2012 19:03:19 | The server is fine - no problems there.
After running flight strips for a little while the entire computer starts to "lag and stutter" like frame rates are dropping very low. Even the mouse cursor moves very slow. The only course I've found to correct it after it starts is rebooting the computer. This is not a new issue. I thought my machine was the only one doing for quite awhile. The other night our controllers started sharing that they have had the same problem when they are using flight strips. I've monitored the cpu (i7-2600k)and memory loads and they don't seem to change much. The CPU affinity is set for FSX on the last three cores. The CPU 0 is free for other stuff. I use windows 7 64-bit if that makes any difference. Not sure about the other's OS. Thanks again, David |

Ryan hasn't been in the session the last two days. Why does his strip not close? It seems to happen with this player quite often and more than others. Ryan's name hasn't been swapped with another player either. Is there a way to close the tower in flightstrips on my end? Best regards ![]() |
Dave Wave ![]() 19th Nov 2012 15:54:43 | Hi David,
Ref your first problem re stuttering. I left flight strips on for 6 hours and can't replicate the problem. I'll continue to test but next time you experience this please check task manager and see what is using your cpu. Ref Ryan staying on as ATC, this is happening because he has left flight strips running on his pc. I'll look at a workaround but meanwhile ask him to close flight strips when he leaves your session. |
David Figge ![]() 19th Nov 2012 22:28:26 | Thanks for the quick replies Dave.
I've asked Ryan a number of times to close out his flight strips. Let me know if you come up with another route. Will advise on the other issue when more details are available. |

Below is a pic of the resource monitor. CPU-0 was running flightstrips - the others for fsx. This only happens after flight strips has ran for awhile. I believe system interrupts are usually a sign of software incompatibility or bad drivers. I also run FS Commander while running FSX & Flightstrips if that makes a difference. The snapshot was taken after everything was closed. the computer will continue to have poor frame rates until a reboot is performed. This only happens when running flightstrips. |
Dave Wave ![]() 25th Nov 2012 09:22:12 | It does sound like a bad driver which is why I can't replicate this.
Next time this happens quit fsx/flight strips etc as above. Then using device manager disable and then re-enable your devices one at a time until hopefully your cpu returns to normal. This should identify what driver is causing the problem and possibly find a better driver. Start with the most likely first, audio and network cards etc. |
