Hello Hash,

First Thing you need to know
The FSOpen Server needs to be ran on a dedicated machine, that has FSX installed. You will not be able to use the same machine to host and to fly/control.

Making Your Session Available To Others
The FSOpen Server Software will give you an option to Display Your Session Details On The table on our home page www.fsopen.co.uk. These details can then be used to connect to your session.

Inviting Players
In regards to Inviting other players, you cant send out an invertation to people saying "Hey, Come Join My Session" however because details of your session will be on our site people will mostlikey join it. You can however send emails to your friends or members of your FlightSim Community if you are involved in one.

How Do I Actually Host The Session Then?
On the dedicated machine you need to have Microsoft Flight Simulator Installed. This machine also needs to have the FSOpen Server Software running. You begin a multiplayer session within FSX like you would normally. Either through GameSpy or through a LAN Connection.

"So How Do I Connect To My Own Session?" I Hear You Ask

On another machine you also need to have Flight Simulator Installed. This is the computer that you use to connect to your own session. You can connect by either finding the session on the GameSpy List (if hosted with gamespy) or via direct connection (which you set up when running the FSOpen Server Software).

"Do They Need To Download Pilot Assistant"
Pilot Assistant Is Not A 'Must Have'. It can be used to allow your players to file flightplans, however, they can also do this by typing !F followed by their flightplan, for example "!F EGKK EGBB IFR 120 LAM DTY " into the chatbox in FSX.

Pilot Assistant Will Offer Extra Functionality Like Airport Maps ect.

Hope That Clears Things Up For You

Joe :-)

I have 2 PC connected thru a ROUTER, can one be use as a dedicated server and have FSX and FSOpen server installed?

Hi Hash,

Yes that is exactly how you should use it.

Why can't you host a session and fly on the same one? Is it because something might happen that crashes the session?

Nope, it just doesn't work well. It's aimed at serious sessions that would have a dedicated server anyway.
