David Bartlam ![]() 21st May 2012 12:44:49 | Hi guys, just trying to find out what all the information means when using !Q (query) in the multiplayer chat window.
I'm currently flying to Culdrose and when finding out the Atis information, this is the reply I get in the window: 211150z 33006kt 9999 few022 sct026 14/09 q1012 tempo sct022 wht So... Date&time, wind, visibility, clouds, 14/09??? Air temp, dew point??? QNH Tempo sct022 wht???? So basically the bits I don't get are the bits with question marks. Anyone able to shed light on this for me? Thanks in advance |
Andy Mooring ![]() 21st May 2012 17:54:17 | Spot on with the first 4 parts...14/09 is outside temp./dew point temp. is lower than the air temp. and can no longer hold on to its form creating dew/mist or fog. Tempo sct022 wht is temporary scattered cloud at 2200 feet westerly height pressure centre temperature or I could easily send you this link and you can see ALL the meanings.

Mick McG ![]() 21st May 2012 18:31:18 | Hi David,
"14/09" - you are right; it's the outside air temp and dew point temp. Dewpoint temp is the temperature at which air can no longer hold all of the water vapor it contains and so the water vapor condenses to form liquid water (ie clouds or fog. The difference between the two readings gives you an idea of the relative humidity - when the air temp and dew point are the same that's 100% relative humidity and that's when you get clouds/fog forming. The "tempo sct022 wht" is the trend. Often "tempo" will be suffixed with a time period (eg "1218" which means 1200 to 1800); "sct022" is cloud again (in this instance but could be anything); "wht" is the colour code - was this METAR a military unit by any chance? Mil units use colour codes as a form of 'short-hand' weather information. Based on visibilty and cloud they range from BLU when it's nice to RED when it's cr4p. UK Military METAR Colour Codes BLU - Min vis 8km; Cloud base 2500ft WHT - Min vis 5km; Cloud 1500ft GRN - Min vis 3700m; Cloud 700ft YLO1 - Min vis 2500m; Cloud 500ft YLO2 - Min vis 1600m; Cloud 300ft AMB - Min vis 800m; Cloud 200ft RED - Less than 800m vis; Cloud below 200ft Black - Airfield closed for non-Met reasons. Hope this also helps (Andy beat me to it, lol) M |

Andy Mooring ![]() 21st May 2012 19:21:26 | Seemed good at the time :oD and I didn't know about the colour code either so another item to remember (god forbid). |
David Bartlam ![]() 25th May 2012 16:56:45 | Thank you very much guys :) |
David Bartlam ![]() 25th May 2012 16:58:14 | Yea, it was military. I work at Culdrose (Im an aircraft engineer) I hear the colour codes being piped on the broadcast all the time, when reading the metar, it didnt click.
Thanks for all the info |
